Used Massage Table Tips

This is the massage bench (or table?) which is...I hope your used massage table will look better than this one – Image via Wikipedia

If you are looking for a used massage table, then there are a couple of things that you should check for.

Yes, you can save money when you buy a used massage table instead of a new one – but it can also cost you! Because sometimes, when you end up buying a massage table that isn’t reliable, or maybe has some defect, you will have to end up buying another one.

However, I will provide some tips for you what to look for when buying a used massage table.

As with buying a new massage table, you want to determine first what kind of massage table you are looking for. The material (wood, aluminum, etc), the functionality and weight (e.g. portable and leightweight, or steady and heavy), whether to have memory foam or not, and so on.

Good places to find a used massage table are ebay, local classified ads (specially if you live in a big city), classified sections of massage therapy related publications, and so on. You might also want to consider posting a “used massage table wanted” ad yourself, because some people just don’t want to post classified ads at all, but might have an old massage table that they don’t use anymore – when they see your ad, they might just pick up the phone and call you.

It’s best if you can check out the massage table yourself. If that is not possible for whatever reason, you want to get a lot of detailed information and specific descriptions. Manufacturer, model name and number, how old the massage table is, any kind of defects, the condition of the headrest and pads, legs, screws, and so on. You might feel like you are being nosy, asking too many questions – but that’s a better feeling than shelling out money for a massage table that you can’t use.

Remember – a massage table is of vital importance to the experience you can provide to your clients. So you want to be a bit “nosy” when it comes to checking that everything is the way you like it with your massage table. Someone who is working as a massage therapist should understand that, so you can expect from the person who wants to sell you the massage table to provide you with as much information as you want and need in order to make a decision.

Also, negotiate about the price. When buying a used item, it is common practice to negotiate, so don’t be shy. Also, don’t just consider the price of the table, but also how you’ll get it. Some large tables can be quiet heavy to transport. If you can’t do it yourself, and the owner doesn’t do it either, you will have to pay for someone to transport the table to your door too.

I hope this information helped you to understand better what to look for when buying a used massage table. If you have questions, please let me know!
